Writings from my couch, in my sweats

That was fun. I feel like I should write some grand finale post, but nothing is coming to my brain. I am going to say though, that this last month has been really fun. Awkward, hard and frustrating at times (baby screaming on the bathroom floor), but really really fun.
I have learned some things- which seems a little stupid to say when what I did was take pictures of myself for 31 days...sooooo

1. Getting ready makes you feel better about yourself
It's true, it does. I used to think that once I became a mom- makeup and clothes didn't matter. True to a degree, but more untrue to a higher-degree (does that even make sense?) Do I feel the need to have every cute trend like I did in high school (floral pants...)? No. Does it help me feel more put together to put on some make-up and a real outfit? Yes. Some days are just wear-pajamas-and-cuddle-with-your-baby days, or throw-on-sweats-and-clean-your-gross-house days. Others days, though, are get-your-husband-to-give-you-a-looooong-kiss-after-work days or remember-you-are-a-girl days...and those days are needed too.

2. You like your clothes more by wearing them
Yep, I am one of those people who looks at my closet, whines, and tells myself I need to shop. I have been that way forever. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it. But it's true. You know that feeling where you think, If I had that one thing...I could wear it with sooo many other things and my whole wardrobe would finally feel complete? Yes. What I realized though, is that when I bought a lot of my clothes, they were that thing I needed. They are still cute. I can mix-and-match. I don't need new clothes. I can be creative.

3. Some blogs are fiction
I've always liked to blog, but I've never been a really big blog reader. I am more of a Pinterest kind of girl than a read-blogs kind of girl. When I started this blog though, I read some blogs, and honestly, some made me really depressed. Not because they were about depressing things...but because they were about PERFECT things. Perfect girl, perfect marriage, perfect house, perfect clothes, perfect etc. One time, I was mad at McKay and I thought to myself,
...I wish he would just be as sensitive to my feelings as that guy on that blog
Then I decided I needed to stop reading those blogs.
No life is perfect.
Here is the thing I learned: some blog are real, some blogs portray something that is less-real. If it makes you feel inspired, happy, appreciative, motivated, or moved...read it.
If it makes you feel inadequate...stop. And PS, I bet their life isn't perfect.

4. Husbands always think your beautiful
I am grateful for a guy who has showed me this over and over and over in our marriage. Pregnant, broken-out, sick, pale, whatever. He never has treated me differently. This is probably one of the reasons why it was easy to just "let go" some days. It's nice though, to put on a little make up now and then. Husbands like it. They look at you really cute sometimes when you do.

5. Sometimes you have to do things, just for you
Remember this post? Well, it's true. I wanted to do this for me because it would be fun. It's still fun. So I might do it a little more...you know...until the "phase" is over.

  3. Well done on all the outfits, your words are so inspiring! The first point really resonated with me because it seems that every blogger-mum seems to say that they just give up on make-up and looking nice, so it's nice to see a different side of things from you. Thank you! x

  8. loved this post, because i have thought a lot of the same things.

but i wanted to ask you another blogging question because you've been oh so helpful. i've been thinkin about changing my header and what not to something a little more simple without pictures but some graphics maybe, but don't know how. how did you do you're little heart deal at the top? is there like a website where you can create what you want? or did someone design it for you? or what? just wondering. :)

    thanks!

    1. So what I do is just search websites with free graphics and then I put them together in Photoshop! That heart was a free graphic and so was the ribbon, and then I just stuck them together! A lot of times, I just type random things in google like "free fonts" or "glitter heart" or whatever I'm looking for, and then go to images. A really good website is makincuteblogs.com. They have a link that you can click on for free stuff! There are a ton of cool things that you can do in Photoshop (like i'm sure you could make glitter letters out of that glitter heart, or other cool things like that). I don't know how to do fancy stuff, but sometimes I will just watch tutorials to learn something specific I want to do. If you need help or anything, you can email me at ali.walker6@gmail.com

  9. Ali you are gorgeous! I seriously can't wait to look at every single one of those outfits and copy them! Looks like your experiment taught you more than you planned, and that's awesome. Thanks for being totally real.

  10. Love catching up on your blog. I couldn't agree more with number 3! Sometimes it's exhausting to read "perfect blogs." Most people don't talk about struggles or the bad days. Love that you put it all out there. And I have been inspired by your outfits and mixing and matching things I already have. Such a cute mom you are!!
