1, 2, 3

Top: Madewell; Dress: Marshalls

1. Hair talk: First of all, I made a bun. I cheated and used the foam thing but still. Second, all you girls and your coconut oil for your hair. HOW do you even do it? I saw some at Trader Joe's and bought it and thought...wow, how very natural of me. I went home so excited to try it, feeling all organic and resourceful. THEN I went to use it, so I opened my jar to find a solid brick of oil. The jar said it was very "stable." And it was. So stable that while scraping it out of the jar, my fingernail like started peeling off. Then I finally scraped out enough to put in my hair- so I put it in my hair. Then I had to wash my hair like 348234720 times to get it out. Then my hair felt the exact same.

2. Today is my mom's birthday (Happy Birthday mom!) and I am the most terrible daughter in the world. The other day, I knew it was about to be her birthday. Then I woke up this morning and did my morning rituals (Facebook, Pinterest, Gmail). Luckily, FB reminded me that it was her birthday.  So then, I cleaned and got ready and fed Jax and went about my day normally. And then my mom called (also normal) and she told me that she needed to drop off Jax's coat that we left at her house. Okay mom. So then we got off the phone and I continued on with my day. Then my brother Chad called. He asked what we were getting my mom for her birthday. Omgsh. I told him that I had talked to her and completely forgot that it was her birthday. Then I asked if he had said Happy Birthday to her. He said no. But he had asked her to go get him some donuts.

3. Today my friend L was coming over for the first time. So obviously, I wanted my house to make a good impression. You truly can tell a lot about a person by their house (we talked about that). So last night, I cleaned the kitchen and then today I vacuumed and cleaned the bathrooms. Then I made a treat because she always makes treats for us when we come over. It was such a wonderful day. Then McKay came home while we were chatting in the kitchen. And within five minutes he said these three things:

1. Oh, you're eating on those plates?! ha. We never eat on those plates. You are using the fancy plates.

2. Did you tell her how much you cleaned? Like late last night when you wouldn't come to bed cause you were cleaning?

3. Yeah, usually our house does not look like this. (emphasis on the does not.)

  3. First off, LOVE the hair! Second off, Happy Birthday Ali's mom! Third off, stripes and you rock it together!

  4. I had the same problem with the coconut oil! My hair was soooo greasy and I was getting it cut the day after I did it and it was still greasy! So embarrassing! Have you ever tried the Macadamia Deep Conditioning treatment? It smells so good and doesn't make your hair greasy :) and McKay makes me laugh! Clay always says stuff like that when we have people over!

  5. OK your bun is PERFECT and i'm so jealous of your flawless crown volume. mine always looks so dumb. i read mckay's visit-ruining quotes to david and he Led-OL. typical. i totally clean a TON before girlfriends come over, you're not alone.

  6. that bun looks great! i've tried the sock bun (only because i can't find the foam one over here) and i DO NOT understand how girls do it. messy bun for me it is.

    1. Ya, I would not be able to do it with just a sock. The foam thing is the same color as my hair and it's big so it makes it super easy. The foam things are like four bucks! SO cheap. I will seriously send you one!

  7. Literally snort-laughing (super attractive, right?) at the paragraph about the coconut oil. I do not know the trick, so when you find out pa-leaseee let me know.

And I love reading your posts. Have I told you that? I think we could be real life besties. Just fyi.

    Have a fab evening...hopefully not cleaning :)

  8. Haha #3 is hilarious - and so typical of guys!! You look gorgeous here - that bun suits you! I use coconut oil (it goes liquid when it's warmer) sometimes just on the ends of my hair (they're super damaged). I leave it in for 20mins before a shower and then just shampoo/condition as usual - it helps protect the ends a bit I think. Probably if your hair is in good condition you don't need it :)

  11. Don't you love when they talk? Now, I don't have a husband, but my boyfriend says lovely things like those all the time. Can't stay mad though, he doesn't understand tact... And as for the coconut oil. use a spoon. and mic it for like... 20 seconds. leave it in for an hourish. then wash your hair a million times. I mix mine half coconut oil half pure aloe gel because I'm too lazy to wash my hair a million times to get out the coconut oil.

  12. You are so lovely!

Re: coconut oil, my own hair is much too fine for me to use it as a hair treatment (I use macadamia oil), but I do use it as a post-shower moisturizer, and as a hair treatment for our Maile!

As a moisturizer, I just put the container in the shower with me (coconut oil has to be heated to take on its oil form), then slather it on post-shower; it works wonders! Same for Maile's hair. I just toss the container in the tub with her, comb a bit through, then thoroughly wash her hair. I also use it as a moisturizer for her -- it's one of the only things I've found that successfully fights her winter eczema, without making her skin break out!

I laughed out loud at McKay calling you out ... Tim would do exactly the same thing!

  14. I recently whipped up a batch of sugar body scrub using coconut oil as a base. I love it for that, but I don't know how it would work in hair ...

  15. seriously McKay?! hahaha your bun looks gorgeous, and I use argan oil in my hair ...it's made suuuuch a difference with split ends. Happy Birthday Ali's Mom!

  16. That's really funny!! I love the look and the bun!! When i use coconut oil in my hair i warm it up in my hand first then only apply to the ends of my hair! You never wamt to get it close to your roots! I also use redken all soft oil every day and I see a big difference!!

  17. i do the same thing when new people come over. i would hate for them to think i'm a slob!

  18. Try scooping a little of the coconut oil in a dish and put in the microwave for a couple seconds to warm it up. When it's warm it turns back into oil form. I use it all of the time to cook with, but I've never tried it in my hair. Lately I've been using Argan oil and noticing that my hair is softer and more shiny so far :) I don't remember the name but I picked up the little spray bottle of it at Target for pretty cheap!

  24. oh my gosh McKay completely louded you out! hahah that is amazing. :) I agree though, you can totally tell a lot about a person by how they keep their house (granted we all get messy here and there, girl please my bedroom is a hot mess currently).
    :)
Also i bought coconut oil and have yet to open it...so i'm curious about those answers toO!

  27. ha ha! your life resembles so much that of mine! Love it...except I don't have as good of hair as you;) I think you might want to try heating the coconut oil up? idk. I have also heard it is good for your face. I have never tried, but if it truly help with these baggy dark circles, I just might!

  28. Hi Ali, you look so pretty as always, love the cool print mix. Your hair looks amazing, tutorial please :) I sometimes use coconut oil, its really good for hair. If it came in a plastic bottle, just run the bottle under a tap of really hot water, it will dissolve and become liquid. I use it for my drier ends and not roots because its far too difficult to wash off. If you're struggling to wash to off, try a bit of fresh lemon juice or cider vinegar to cut the grease (sorry for all these long instructions). P.S Happy Birthday to your mum!
