Learning this thing with a kid jumping off my back

Lots of you guys have asked about what camera I am using now, so I thought I would answer you right here! It's the Nikon d800. I love it. It is amazing. I feel really really undeserving and like I know about .01% of what it can do, but I love it.
So now I need TIPS! I know a ton of you are amazing photographers (I have seen your blogs!). Are there any books you really loved? Any tutorials you really liked? Have any of you taken online classes? I have thought about that.  I feel like I really could use some Photoshop knowledge too (probably the most, actually).

Jax and I are off to to the beach today to practice!

Any tips/advice would be really really really REALLY appreciated. I will read every word!

  11. LOVE Jax jumping off of you! Everyone says the best way to learn is to practice... which I find to be TOTALLY frustrating when you're trying to get pictures for a blog post and they look crappy. Surprisingly, a friend let me borrow her photography book from college and I'm currently reading that now because as you can tell by my blog, I am an iphone user and my fancy schmancy camera sits in its bag in my closet! The book is called "Photography The Essential Way" by London Stone and Upton and it breaks things down pretty simply. I've also been taking notes on a little sheet of paper to keep tucked in my computer bag that says when you have what shutter speed and all of that jazz. Not sure that helps much but I'm paddling in your same boat!! Good luck!

  13. I recommend Pioneer Woman's blog. She posts Photoshop tips a lot, but there are also just good things to know about photography in general. Plus, she's funny and her stuff is hilarious to read. :)
