One Turkey Later

We are baaack. And it feels so good to be home. After a long trip, my favorite thing in the world to do is pulling into our garage, swinging open the front door and smelling our own house. Then I run upstairs and I wait for McKay to haul up our suitcases. Then I unzip them and hurriedly empty out the contents and zip them back up and send them on their way back to the garage. And then I feel home. Currently, all our stuff is laying on our bed un-put-away, but that's okay because there usually really is a huge, unfolded pile of clothes laying on our bed- and as long as it's on our bed and not on the floor, it feels clean. And it is. Because it's not on the floor.

Anywaysss, Boise was lots of fun. We got some family updates and ate lots of food and shopped. And shopped. and shopped. And we got Kneaders- at which I savored every single bite and McKay even said "This is like...my favorite...breakfast...ever." And also we went to Anthropologie- which was detrimental and might have enforced our bank's "Overdraft Protection" capabilities to our checking account- to which I had left the precise amount we would need for Thanksgiving in Boise- which turned out to be underestimated.

But on an un-superficial note, the trip was great. The highlight for me, was spending time at McKay's grandpa's house, which is always one of my favorite things we do there. We walked around and looked at pictures of McKay's grandma and talked and listened to stories. And I got some perspective- if you know what I mean- about what's really is important.

and today is my brother Cody's birthday!
Right now, he is in New York, serving a mission for our church.
And I hope he knows how much I love and miss him!

  10. I love going away, but coming home is always the best feeling ever. I HATE clothes on the floor! I have a bad habit of trying on a hundred things before I decide what to wear and not hanging anything back up, but they never end up on the floor. Stacked on the dresser, in a basket for clean laundry, anywhere but on the floor!!!!!!!!

  16. Ali you look adorable as always! And I just had to comment here cause I totally know your pain!! Waaaay back I used to sell headbands on etsy and I thought it would be so fun at first (and it kinda was!) But I got burned out so dang fast and closed after a couple months. Still, I say it's worth it if you can keep it up for a few months because it's a great source of income and it's great to work for something as awesome as a camera! Call me if you ever need to vent or need a sewing buddy or help assembling or shipping or whatever! Seriously! Anyway, just had to say I totally understand where you're coming from. I remember the only time that I could find time to really make the dang things was late at night after kids were in bed and I got too tired too quick. Here's my old shop. I'll probably never re-open. Well, I guess never say never right?

I love all your headbands though! They're SO SO cute. You've got skillz girl. Anyway, I will probably order a few from you for Rubes. She needs a few new ones. Now just to decide which ones...hard choice!

    p.s. love the pants!

  18. Such a lovely time. Holidays are the best. I like the 'clean floor' rule. ;)

I was going to ask what Kneaders was, but then I realized I have Google. ;) Yummy!!

Also, I'm no longer allowed to go into Anthropologie unattended, the damage to my pocketbook has been too great. le sigh... ;)

  20. Glad you had fun! Kneaders...is that a restaurant name or a type of food or what?

Also, your lizard reminded me that when I was home for Thanksgiving, my dad went to get the mail and found a lizard TAIL in our mailbox. He came inside and thought it would be funny to wave it in my face. Except I thought it was a snake's tail, and I am almost deathly afraid of snakes, so I screamed and freaked out. Everyone else thought it was funny, though. So basically my point is, way to go, you, for holding a lizard!

  21. Hi Ali! Glad you had a great Thanksgiving, I loved reading about it (especially your home ritual. It sounds so cozy!)! That special time with family, even doing nothing, is so great, especially when you've moved away from home! I had to resist even stepping in an Anthropologie when I was home...trying not to spend any money on myself so I can buy everyone else presents! Love that cute picture of you and your brother too, ha!

  22. I'm glad you had a great trip! Sounds like a lot of fun, and I totally understand, Anthropologie likes to drain my bank account too :)

  23. Haha! I feel the same way! I always put stuff on our bed, and my husband hates it! But I always feel that as long as the floor is clean that's all that matters! :) Love your blog!!
