Be Responsible

DON'T GO TO ANTHROPOLOGIE. Just don't. don't. don't. don't. (unless you are rich).
A little while ago, I got an email about an annual sale there, so I kept it in my Inbox and then promptly deleted it during a moment of responsibility. Of course, I still remembered the date (burrrrrned in my brain) and this morning I woke up and commanded myself not to go. I texted my friend L, just to let her know about it- being a good friend...or not, I guess. Then I went about my day- playing with Jax and cleaning and doing whatever. Then McKay called me after work (I was running errands) and I just gave a tiny little hint (which I sometimes do when I want him to decide) so we went. And I'm not kidding...TWO HOURS OF TORTURE. They have so many cute things AND Christmas decor.

So here's my little grouping of the things I did not buy out of pure responsibility:
(and my commentary on some)

1 2 3 4 5 6

1. These are OVEN SAFE. You can bake tiny pies in them!
2. ARE THESE NOT THE CUTEST STOCKINGS??!!!
4. This might be ugly. It's ugly to McKay...but every time I see it, I just like it.
5. Boring, cute, perfect with everything. Black and brown.
6. Obsessed.

happy 2am!

ugh.

  3. I hear ya on Anthropologie!!! I could go into debt just by peering into the windows. They have the most adorable things though! When i go in there I usually head to the sale area or I give myself a limit on how much I can spend. I'm going there later and I know exactly what I want. Hopefully I only come out with it! =)

  5. hahah i'm so glad you posted this...seriously.
I'm happy to know i'm not alone...i walk through that store, drooling, salivating, and then sobering up because i remember that i have bills to pay and it would be completely irresponsible to spend over $50 on a plate. A PLATE.
Did you see their octopus plates?!?! and tea clothes?!?! I almost cried because i wanted them...but $15 for ONE dessert plate that isn't china?! i just can't justify it in my head.

  10. It's true. I can't go into that store because I either leave feeling broke, or I leave depressed because I didn't buy anything. You have to just stop torturing yourself! :)

  11. Anthropologie IS dangerous! lol. I'm so lucky there isn't one in my town! closest Anthro is 2 hours away... and the website isn't as good as the actual store. phew!

  12. but..well..um.. is the sale still going on?? :) :) i'm with you (and all other commenters on here) on the dangers of anthropologie. i've actually though of getting a part time job there, and working like one shift a week, just to get the discount. i've had that thought multiple times..

    1. You should totally work there! haha you are so funny. I WISH I could tell you it was, but it was just a one-day-thing at a certain mall. So I guess it was only one store- kinda weird! But if you sign up and become a "member" or something like that you get 15% off a whole purchase in your b-day month!

  15. i get their sale emails and i just have to delete and not even look because just looking will bring my bank account to negative! anthropologie and i don't get along although i still think their stuff is really cute, i wish anthropologie and i could be on better terms

  16. …ok i just noticed that #1 is oven-safe. i might actually have to get those. veggie pot pies! we don't have any ramekins, so i might as well get gorgeous ones from anthro, right?

  17. I can't take it! I get the email sales all the time and I just have to delete them without reading right now. Though I did flip through the holiday catalog last night before going to sleep. :)

  18. You are exactly like me. I hate going in there, but basically because its my favorite store that I can only afford a small doorknob out of. Ha! Love the comment about McKay hating that jacket, sounds just like our conversation from yesterday ;) he and my soon to be hubby sound so alike.

    Happy weekend gorgeous!

  19. omg I literally have to stop myself from going in there so I don't get depressed seeing all the things i CAN'T buy!

  21. Seriously, you can NEVER go in there. Or Urban Outfitters. Every time I do, I die a little inside from sheer pain of not being able to afford the AMAZING things they sell. I think I've only ever bough books from both because they are all I can afford lol. Thanks for stopping on by my blog. So excited to be following you!

  22. That stocking!! Oh my goodness. I want three of them hung on my fireplace. $150 for three stockings? I can justify that, right? hmm..maybe I should just learn to knit and make my own.

  25. Hi dear, thanks for your lovely comment...after reading this I am kinda relieved we don't have Anthropologie stores here in SA - I would be bankrupted every single time I went in. Adore the pretty dinner plates at Nr 6!

  26. Ah! They have SO much cute stuff. You're right. I can't go in there.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love Anthropologie! Luckily I never shop there or else I'm pretty sure I'd own the whole store!

  28. I totally know what you mean....I always leave anthropologie upset because everything is just TOO expensive!! I did buy coasters from them though. they were just too pretty! my mom said I can buy cheaper ones elsewhere, but no one makes beautiful coasters like anthropologie <3

  39. Going to Anthro is one of my favorite holiday traditions! They always have great candles burning and always decorated to feel so festive! Although, I am like you and usually make myself leave empty handed because I just cannot buy all of the lovely things I want to there!

    ReplyDelete
  40. hahaha omg girl, you crack me up. (unless you are rich.) Anthro is EVIL- too much temptation, too many cute things!! I am definitely impressed that you bought nothing!!! Way to be responsible! ;)

  41. Anthro is torture! My family in Aus doesn't have access to it and so they regularly trawl the website looking for things for me to go pick up for them. LOVE those Christmas stockings in particular!

  42. Oh my gosh, you have GREAT responsibility and amazing self control! I don't know how you did it. Somehow, I would've found a way to talk myself into why I need to buy something. That bowl though...oven safe??! And so cute!!!
